Whistleblower Scheme Launched by ComCom - Specific to Grocery Sector

The Commerce Commission has announced a whistleblower scheme for submitters who want to make input to its work. Tellingly this is exclusive to the grocery sector - seldom before has the Commission seen a need for such a mechanism. This is still further evidence of the extraordinary power held by the super-duopoly and the fear felt by suppliers in this key sector. Check the Comcom site for details.

The Commerce Commission has launched a whistleblower scheme designed to allow anonymous input to its for processes for people who may feel under commercial and other threat if they comment publicly. Tellingly, this is specific to the grocery sector - the Commission has rarely felt the need for such a mechanism before.Perhaps this was inspired by the fact that only three suppliers to the supermarkets made submissions to the Foodstuffs North/South merger process, and all three did so anonymously.

Another illustration of the climate of fear that exists among suppliers due to the extraordinary concentration of power in what was once a very competitive and vibrant grocery distribution sector.
