Fighting for fair grocery prices
and genuine competition

Welcome

The Grocery Action Group was formed to lower the prices of groceries for all Kiwis. Our vision is to influence government, the regulators and other parties to deliver a competitive and consumer-focused grocery sector in New Zealand.

"A lack of competition had allowed supermarkets to push grower margins to the limit, while at the same time charging consumers too much - and they were making a lot of money in the process,"

- NZ Stuff

Since we formed this year, we have made huge strides – organising sessions with politicians, the Commerce Commission, suppliers and potential competitors. We’ve  fought hard against a proposed merger of Foodstuffs North and South Islands. To allow this merger would negatively impact consumers and suppliers. The Commerce Commission has rejected the application, but Foodstuffs has appealed.

So, more still needs to be done. And we also think we need more competition to drive cheaper prices at the checkout and to ensure suppliers are assured of an outlet for their products at a reasonable price.

Every bit counts!
